tell your story

the 20 under 21 project.

What is it?

It's been a rough year for everyone.  But the ones hurt the most through 2020 and 2021 are the school-aged kids.  They've had their worlds drastically altered, not getting to go to school and then getting to go to school but with strict protocols.  Worrying about disease, vaccinations, no vaccinations, adults arguing and debating about racism, vaccines, local and school mandates, and everything else.  Kids are having a hard time just being kids!

Depending on age and circumstance,  the experience has been vastly different for every child.  This special project is to give them a platform for their voices and their experiences.  I am photographing 20 young people under 21 years of age, interviewing them, and finally, putting together an end product of some kind, either a magazine, an exhibit, or some other kind of culminating product.

This project is meant to celebrate the beauty of kids, let them play, have a little fun in the spotlight, all while giving ears to their stories.  I think we can learn a lot from kids!

STEP TWO

 THE CONSULTATION

THE CONSULTATION

I want to know all about your child!  I will ask them a lot of questions!    I will ask what colors and styles they would like to be photographed in and if they would like to use any items from my studio wardrobe.  I will also make suggestions based on information about their personality and interests.  We will also discuss props such as florals and crowns.  We want to plan for 2-3 wardrobe/style changes.  This will also be a time for you to ask questions as well.

We will go over all your expectations for the shoot so that I can plan and produce the images you are hoping for!

SCHEDULE THE SHOOT

You will schedule your session day and time, sign the contract stating you understand what you are receiving for the price, and pay the $299 fee to secure the spot.  Cancellations within 2 weeks of the shoot will not be refunded, but the date can be rescheduled one time.

My intention is that you leave this session fully informed, excited, and ready for your shoot date!

STEP THREE

THE SHOOT

  The day has come!

Teens may want to have their hair and make-up done professionally.  If so, I can arrange for a stylist to be on-site one hour before the shoot for the customary rate of $150. Most children will not request this service and can arrive at the time of the shoot.

The photo session will last about 2 hours.  The number of set changes and clothing changes will depend on decisions made during our consultation.  I will create a variety of images from which you will choose at your viewing session.

Lastly, your child will be interviewed on video about their pandemic experience and how they felt to have a special photoshoot just for them.  The interview will be used to find quotes and anecdotal stories.

STEP FOUR

THE VIEWING SESSION and THE GALLERY EXHIBIT INVITATION

Two weeks after your shoot you will get to view your images!  We can do this in person or via a shared screen on *Zoom.

You will choose the image you would like printed and matted with the accompanying digital file and I will show you the one I picked that will also be printed and matted.  I will choose one that I deem worthy of showcasing!  You have no obligation to purchase any more than the two complimentary images, but I will show you all the best images for you to decide.

Please see the prices on the

"PORTRAIT EXPERIENCE" page to understand package and a la cart pricing, in case you wish to purchase more.  You will also have the option to purchase 10 globally edited (not retouched) images for $199 to be provided digitally.

I will let you know how I plan to culminate the project at a later date.  The decision will depend on participation and interest in the project.

PROJECT'S END

The culminating product or event will be a unique experience created to remind everyone that each and every individual is special, significant, and important.  Every individual has a story to tell.

I enjoyed it a lot!  All the times before it's been just regular, like jeans and a shirt.  This was so much more creative!  I got to pretend to be a character!

Age: 14, High School Freshman

It was great!  But weird!  I've never gotten to be in a shoot (of my own) before.  I'm usually the one setting up the video and running to be in it.

I really liked it.  When we've done (shoots) in the past it's been basic and normal, not extravagant.  For this one, we got to dress up and wear tiaras!

Age: 12, Middle School
